pretty great psycholigical work ngl about how revenge begets revenge, how children will always yearn for parental love, and how a twisted upbringing shapes personality defects. the bottom and his wife are awful arrogant people who became parents not out of love, and throughout their marriage inflicted a lot of pain on each other to make the other suffer, impactin other people. the top is a direct result of the mother's innate nature and this twisted childhood with two parents who couldnt give two shits about him. however, being a child, he cannot help but yearn for loving family, which was destroyed oone day when he witnessed his mother raping his father (bottom) as punishment for infidelity. from then on, his intense desire for affection towards his father became sexualized, which was mocked by his mother, and even encouraged when he was older to inflict further revenge on him when she's dead. the mother a great narrative tool that subverts the usual gender roles in toxic straight, and even in bl, dynamics-- she is the controlling and possessive CEO type who destroys what she can't have, denigrating the bottom bc she felt humiliated. for the bottom, she forced him to give up on his dreams to become a parent as a revenge for treating her initial sincerity as an act of prostitution, and he resents her just as he fears her, constantly cheating as petty revenge against her bc his materialistic greed compels him to stay in the marriage. but the truth is, they may have loved each other at the beginning, but their shitty personalities and egos got the better of them. despite the top resenting the bottom for his indifference, he fears becoming just like his mother, a cruel, controlling rapist, and desperately holds onto the hope that the bond based on a biological connection could salvage their estranged relationship, and his desire for a happy family will come to fruition eventually. but when the bottom causes that car accident, it becomes apparent to the top that the bottom truly never loved him. he is enraged, he is resentful from the years of emotional neglect from a man who was never his biological father, yet unable to resolve his lust towards him. so the top rapes his father to assert control over him, like a child childishly venting his anger on a toy, clumsily imitating his mother. hate and love are two sides of the same coin, and he wanted the bottom to resent him in a childish attempt to monopolize his attention. even tho the bottom despises him, he's unable to separate with his wealthy lifestyle, and when he figures out the top actually wanted love from him, he begins trying to manipulate him using sex. his control slipping away but still denying his love for bottom, the angry top fists him to make him suffer and regain control. he regrets it immediately and panicks, reverting back to his childish habit of huddling in his father's clothes to seek comfort. seeing this, the bottom realizes the best way to hurt the top is to hurt himself, a risky gamble that paid off and successfully shifted the control to him in the end when the top finally admits he just wanted the bottom to love him. honestly, i think if those childhood things didn't accumulate, the top wouldn't have developed such coping mechanisms of raping his father. His loneliness and yearning are really palpable through the screen. The storytelling is genuinely so fantastic, being able to convey layered characterization without directly narrating to the audience in text boxes.
