cute but textbook. this felt like tropes distilled to their most simplistic forms: young puppy boyfriend who cracks open the shell of his cold older lover with boundless affection. there's the expected sexual harassment from a pushy ex, and a misunderstanding ending in a tearful 'i like you!' from the frigid lover who finally melts. i can't say i wasn't moved, but i was underwhelmed.

Maybe if it was a little longer and had done something More with the characters (who i liked! there's nothing wrong with the classics...hiroki is the pinnacle of beautiful salary man and i did enjoy the early 2000s art of stylish men in suits which gets much better around chapter 4) but it was so basic. i admired sato's tenacity despite hiroki's coldness, and wanted to see how hiroki might support sato when he was in need so it would feel less one-sided.

it felt like the bare bones of a story without fleshing out the details. maybe it's because, based on a recommendation, i was led to believe this was something more than it was trying to be.
