okay, thing is - this could have been 5/5, even by regular fiction standards. i understand what the author was trying to do with like the emperor calling roha a monster while being a monster himself, the part with giving someone a name, the mountain being left alone being a symbol of a road to forgiveness and all that. HOWEVER, the part that bothers me most is that the mc had absolutely no reason to fall in love with the emperor… none, at all. until the extras, the emperor is a 100% villain and we, as readers, arent given any flashbacks or inner monologue to start rooting for him even a little bit. also, all that stuff with seizures and sleepwalking and all that - kinda fades into the background?? even tho i feel like so much could be done with that since the author seems to be fond of metaphors and allegories … anyways, this is infinitely better than most bl slop on here so i AM giving it 5/5 but there are SO many things that could have made this ACTUALLY good rather than just good compared to other bl manhwa (which isn’t very good at all)

This was one of my guilty pleasures, also immediately went to read the novel when it came out with just a few chapters. I gotta say the novel described things more dramatic than in the manhwa. I surprisingly shed tears because of this, which is honestly a surprise since I rarely waste my tears on 3 star stories. I loved the dilemma each character had, I gotta give props on the author, many people probably hated the protagonist for falling for the emperor when he had a perfect man chasing after him. But, I honestly loved his character for that, I'm not saying I wasn't rooting for the 2nd ML but let's just say the 2nd ML just didn't fit well with him, he was too good for him. That's the thing, he was no longer satisfied in a love that was all sweet, he was already addicted to the taste of darkness. He couldn't love without darkness. He indeed carried the toxin but he was the one getting intoxicated, I believe that was the point of the plot. Him getting with the 2nd male lead would lose his entire purpose, the ML quite definitely had the ability to write of his ambition, and you always need that someone in your life. You're bound to feel empty if you reach for utter sunlight, for a balance in toxins, you'd have to have darkness situated with you.
