This is one of the first yaoi manga I read, and it really is one of the best. The story of a chef at a restaurant and one of his repeat customers.
One of the things that sets this manga apart is that while in many ways it is a very romantic and sweet story, it has a more adult feel to it. Conflicts with side-characters are not melodramatic or one-dimensional. The relationship that both characters have with their work is central to the plot of the manga. Great read, highly recommended.
One of the best out there, in my opinion. It's a sexy, dramatic, and idiosyncratic comedy featuring an extremely sex-positive single father who runs a sweets shop in a small town and a stuffy, awkward big-city physician who has been forced to work at the local clinic. The art is lovely, the characters larger than life, and the story genuinely funny and melodramatic by turns. It manages to be sweet without even coming close to being saccharine. A rare treat indeed.
This was amazing. Mature (for its genre), slow burn, excellent side characters (gramps was a particular treat), sexually aggressive uke - first time same-sex experience for seme relatively well handled. Lovely story about a brewer and a salesman. Can't recommend this enough.
This really is one of my absolute favorites. Sensitive bouncer whose face is difficult to read meets empathetic, effervescent clubber who uses his effusiveness as a mask. This manga deals with homophobia, bullying, and sexual awakening more seriously than most, without ever becoming overly gritty or depressing. A wonderfully told narrative all around, and the art beautifully heightens the emotional impact of this fully realized story - definitely the mangaka's best. Highly recommended.
One of the gentlest & most tender yaoi manga out there - a sweet story of a divorced single father who works as a chef & a regular customer. What sets this manga apart is that while it does have some yaoi cliches (straight man falls for gay man), the progression of the relationship is slow and feels - if not more realistic than your typical yaoi story - more mature. The characters behave like adults and the buildup to the romance is wonderful. The art is nice and cleanly drawn.
Sakai, a novelist, realizes his bisexual husband, Shizuka, likes children. Feeling guilty for depriving him opportunity to be a father, he has just decided to break it off when Shinuka suffers a terrible accident.
This is one of the most straightforwardly romantic manga I have ever read. It's an amnesia story, & while the premise is cliche, the depth of the relationship between the two characters makes this manga absolutely irresistibly sweet and genuinely moving. The art is perfection.
The main story centers on an effervescent & affectionate hair dresser who decides to befriend an exceedingly handsome but socially inept & emotionally stunted colleague. The second, shorter story is about how an older brother, who has lived in the shadow of his cossetted younger brother, finds love in the form of an overly-eager younger co-worker. These two interrelated stories are well-told and compelling. This manga is notable for both its emotional complexity and its excellent artwork.
This manga is exquisite - the slowest of slow burns, incredibly rewarding. This is a love story, but it is not just a love story. It is about what it means to be a family and what it means to learn to understand the world in a new way, what it means to grow up, what it means to come to terms with the past & forgive. The art is fantastic, and the characters are complex and realistic. A very long manga, but it never drags and feels very self-contained and thought-through. Truly one of the best.

And now I've become your follower aha!
Thanks for the lovely comment and the recs! Those two manga are some of the absolute best in the genre IMHO. I will say that my "gold standard" list is a bit uneven tbh - there are a number of manga that probably should be on here that are on my 4-5 star list but I just neglected to add them. If you run through these and are looking for a longer list with more titles, definitely check out my 4-5 star list. :)
Sayonara Heron has been on my to-read list for aaageees and I'll bump it up to read next. I have read EVERYTHING available by Nishida Higashi (probably my favorite BL mangaka), but I've refrained from putting their titles in this list because all of their best work has stuff that may make readers uncomfortable. But OMG I loved Yoru ga Owaru Made. Bokura no Shokutaku is also one of my favorites (you have excellent taste!). I liked it so much I bought a hard copy of the English translation.
Ok so quick question about Canis: I've been waiting for it to finish before I start reading. Is the story satisfyingly concluded, or is it truly ongoing? I know sometimes the main arc(s) are resolved more or less but additional volumes sometimes come out.
Sorry for gushing a bit. Anyway, thanks again. <3
Oh yes I've already checked it ahaha :D <3
And for Canis, it's a saga, so the first story, declined in 3 books, "Dear Mister Rain " (1 book) and "Dear hatter" (2 books), is complete. So you can read this one. You will follow the beautifuuuul and sweet looove between Kutsuna and Kashiba <3
In fact, this is the spin-off wich is still ongoing, "The Speaker" (2 on 3 books I think; and it's about the previous mafia boss of Kashiba).
"Sorry for gushing a bit." ahahahaha no worries, we are between fanatics sooo
Thanks for the list! Looks like I'll have something to read to pass time by during quarantine :)
As thanks I'll pass on these gems to consider
1.I didn't mean to fall in love by Suzumaru Minta
2.Given ( idk the author )
3.Long Vacation
4.Momentum
Ooh thank you so much for the recommendations! I am always on the lookout. ^.^ Given is on my to-read list, but I want to wait until it's finished. I'll certainly check these out.
I should add that this is a somewhat arbitrary list of my personal favorites and so is rather limited. If you run through these and still want more recs, I've two lists of stories I rated 4-5 stars here (they are updated more often too):

#3, 9, 10 though by this time I 've read no. 10 and enjoyed it lol. No.1'is sort of familiar but I'm not so sure I've actually read it since I read a lot of BL manga but tend to jump from one series to another it all becomes a blur to me lol. Anyway I'm looking forward to more, even if it's something I've already read because I enjoyed rereading some on these lists. Doushitemo furetakunai and sorenari ni shinken nandesu are both a fav of mine. :)
Ah, most of those are ones I have not written proper reviews for yet. Need to re-read them. :)
Awesome! I know that since my standards for inclusion are pretty rigid, as a result most of the manga listed here will probably already be familiar to most folks. Might I ask which of the ones I included you hadn't read before? Hopefully as I continue to read this list will be expanded and updated. :)
I just saw one of your reviews in one of the mangas you've read and I just had to check your profile out and you didnt disappoint with this list. I've read some of them but there are still a few that I certainly would like to check out so thank you for this list!!!
