Historical Lonely Housewife Fodder

Just after the Napoleonic war has ended, England is a dangerous place for French citizens, but when an English solicitor is saved from a savage beating by a poor French seamstress, the ball gets rolling on tale of mystery, betrayal, hatred and redemption that ends with a union of a broken, haunted man and a lone, but fiery, Gallic woman.

A man shunned and isolated by his scars, both mental and physical, finds intrigue and annoyance in a nurse whom, already haunted by the past, roamed the battlefields of the Crimean War, and now runs an orphanage in desperate need of donations. A blizzard blocks her way home, tragedy strikes in the form of an injured child, and the healing of two lonely souls begins.

Not bad, considering. She's been rejected due to her unusual stature, and is now determined to live the life of a spinster until she meets a tall, handsome stranger during a blizzard. They spark, part, lose track of each other, reunite, rekindle, ignite some drama, and, finally, it all works out.

This one is interesting with the whole 'prison marriage/debt cancellation' clause. Very little was open for women and children at the time without male assistance, add to that the whole class structure situation and it's, well, shitty all 'round. Yes, communication could've eased some of the tension, but, again, historical constructs and a society that's emotionally constipated. It's still cute though.

She's abused and naive; he's cold and untrusting. What starts as an almost desperate deal for both of them, turns into something warm and fuzzy. It's cute.

A 'cold-hearted' man meets a fiery young thing who hopes to help the aunt who took her in. He's not as icy as rumored and she's got a timid streak, but admits her mistakes. Cute, with some premarital fornication (or so implied), which, contextually, was bad, but happened.

Austen-esque version of 'Cinderella' (Disney's version, anyway. (I prefer the amputations, but I digress). A lady is in the care of her evil uncle and his brood, they leave to snare monied mates and leave the poor relation at home. Soldiers with two abused kids arrive in the night to take refuge in a blizzard; some mild canoodling, headhunting, then love and a title for the poor relation to the chagrin of her evil doers.

A man haunted by war and a naive school marm who seeks freedom. Women had no control over their own money (unless you nailed the queen seat and even then it was tricky), so she's at the mercy of the men in her family. She recruits her childhood friend to be her husband and they set off to the Vegas of the time for some quick nuptials. Slandered and hounded, they finally reach their destination and love and windfalls for all.

I guess it's a Austen-esque version of Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew'? He: A titled, staunch military man fresh from war; She: A prim, country hell cat. It's great to be strong willed, BUT she's got nothing (i.e. wealth and/or station) behind her and given the context, that wasn't a good place to be. Tact would have served her well, but she has little to spare and he's just in the mindset of men of the time. They get there though.

Lord of the land meets downtrodden bastard girl who is being victimized by her guardian's wife and daughter. She's a spunky thing, choosing to stow away in the back of his carriage in an attempt to escape the harassment. He takes up guardianship, but they both pull at each other, but being who she is, she cannot become his wife... Until it's discovered who she is, bastard or not.
