Nothing complicated, but the romance is more of a subplot and it's slow burn. The main story has a modern setting and a soul swapping premise. The adult main character accidentally swaps souls with a seemingly suicidal teenager and has to uncover as many mysteries as possible to understand the boy's decisions, reasons and save his life. Sounds like the classic "body swap" premise, but it's not quite like that.
Dystopia, androids, soldiers, brain experimentation, hackers, conspiracies. A human soldier who hates androids because of a gruesome incident from his past is forced to have the newest, most advanced, wholesome and lovable android assistant as exposure therapy + desire for revenge + a political mess ruled by greedy mfs + SF stuff you won't fully understand + trauma. MY trauma. Jesus Christ.
Honestly... even I got lost in all the names and timelines. I couldn't finish it. My memory failed me. Anyway, it's fantasy, it has dragons and there's a lot going on.
