As atypical as atypical can get (BL)

We have an MC who's a professional killer and falls in love. Not only that, dude's not toxic or coercive, on the contrary. He's flustered, can't help himself, and yet loves the ML only the way he knows. You don't read that every day in BL.

Corruption, political bootlickery, ambition, hierarchies, gentrification, childhood sexual abuse by the hands of a cop. The main characters are on the opposing sides of a resolution plan for a redevelopment project. One side, a boxer, is suffering from CTE, is addicted to the pain of getting beat up in matches, and fucks the same man who tries to take away his studio in his own empty ambition of climbing a political ladder as the assistant of a congresswoman. ABSOLUTE noir cinema!

Talking shadows in reflections, torn up people crawling as hands, a black room full of mystery... This is a great horror manhwa and, imo, a cool spin on Jungian shadow/psychoanalysis theory.

A lonely beast overflowing with loyalty bordering to naivety falls for a human with a complicated past, a pleasurable exterior and a surprisingly cold, empty interior. An unusual pair with unique characters and an even more unique relationship.

To preface this, I don't like the story overall. However, it does fit the criteria of subversion of tropes particularly in omegaverse because not only is the omega (Joshua, bodyguard) badass, can fight, talks back when the shit ass ML assaults and disrespects him, and stands his ground, but he's also the reliable, strong protector of a *dominant* alpha (Chase; total man child with a very traumatic past). It's very refreshing to see.

A stalking situation that's kinda wholesome (pulling that off is truly extraordinary lol). Pretty unusual if you ask me.

The zombie, post apocalyptic setting is not very atypical, but also not super prevalent in BL, however, that's not the unusual thing about this story. The characters themselves are - the ML has grown up in a bunker his parents prepared as they anticipated the big apocalypse, and he was abandoned as a child all alone in that bunker. He grew incredibly lonely, yet self reliant. The MC is an amputee who's also a survivor of SA and fights back as he gets the opportunity to do so.

The omega MC has a teeth fetish. It's also subversive to see the omega prisoner try to seduce and sexually overpower the alpha prison guard in his lust for good teeth lol.

A pairing between an alpha and omega that happened as a contractual condition set by the omega; an alpha and omega who work together as equals in a world where omegas are treated as lesser in any way, and an alpha who just sees people, not genders. This story is also unique in how it realistically displays themes of sexism, violence, systematic discrimination, opens a conversation about who the truly problematic gender is. Two people who work together against all odds - refreshing!
