Beautiful art, great paneling that is not too cramped, wonderful characters with depth and development, and a plot that packs its punches up to the very end. A perfect inspiring read in the romance genre because of main protagonist's relational and romantic journey with her arranged marriage husband.
All 12 volumes have been professionally translated and is available in bookstores and online in both print and digital formats for English readers.
The art and comparatively cramped dialogue takes some getting used to. It effects the reading pace. However, this becomes Silver Diamond's strength in light of foreshadowing, the re-reading value, and the reinforcement of each character's unique identity. The flora illustrations and their functions in the manga stand out. The latter half of the story brings great philosophical and theological questions to the table.
Volumes 1-9 have professional English translations released in print
A wonderful story of a scorned half-commoner prince who matures into young man in the midst of personal and national crisis. It reads like a medieval (but modern) tale. The pacing can be slow. . .even an awkward time jump or two. However, there is a diverse and satisfying cast of characters. There is continual tension that draws you to know the ending of the story. Issues of racism, prejudice, and political power are central to the story's conflict.
From Far Away is a stellar shoujo adventure-romance story in spite of its 90s drawing style. The world and the plot develops layer upon layer like the relationship between the protagonists. There are distinctive, memorable secondary characters that add to the enjoyment of the story. Villains are stereotypical. However, the mystery surrounding the source of the villain motive gives interest.
Professional English copies of the complete series are available in print and digital formats.
