Rarely bc I don't want to waste my data lmfao. My school can view student activity on their devices if we connect to their wifi haha(● ̄(エ) ̄●) but it's something I do during lunch and my study hall/gael period :)

In public places, yes. I wouldn't always recommend that since once a middle-aged woman was interested in what I'm reading (her son was apparently in some comic business).. she asked to see the manga's cover and couldn't think a way to avoid that, so I showed Starting with a Kiss vol.1... her reaction though "Ohh, comics sure have changed today" (-_-;) (^_^;)

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure they do. I also use the schools laptop to read yaoi. I'm sure that's not a good idea either xD

I don't like reading in public places, since if I worry about getting caught I can't enjoy what I'm reading.

I know this kinda a late respond but I was once caught reading yaoi at my school laptop. And Holy Shit I was embarrassed in front whole class because the teacher saw my history. And the teacher was like WTF. So it not good idea to do on your school laptop. I'm so weird. but yeah so.. It was nightmare for me but I got over it but still it was sooooooo embarrassing at that time. ( I was 7th grade at that time, I'm such a bad person) sorry for typing too much *sigh*

If she's truly middle-aged, she has probably lived through the most provocative decades in history, including the sexual revolution. She's probably heard it all, seen it all, and experienced a great deal more than you suspect. I don't know very many elderly people who can be shocked by much of anything these days. Still, no reason to test that, esp. if you live in a dictatorship country where there are very strict laws governing sexual expression.
