What do people mean by saying 'we need character development'? Because it sounds like they want him to become a good, loving person. I'm not sure this is the point of the story. Both of them have some unhealthy coping mechanisms. It might get boring but I again bring the fiction aspect of the story. And that the author suggested that they will find happiness 'in their own way', which might not be what happiness is to us. In not saying the main characters should stay toxic and not change their behaviour but why is development only seen as a positive thing? It could also be the opposite, going fully crazy and killing people. I once again think that people just don't understand what fiction is about and what that story is about. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
