The god of pain literally kept on using River without ever really thinking about his feelings. He is a short sighted selfish bastard. He kept excusing his actions by saying that he "isn't good enough" for River and that River shouldn't end up with someone like him. Which BTW I can only agree with. But the worst thing is that he never even tried to make up for his past mistakes. Instead he kept on insisting that what he did was wrong and still kept doing exactly that. You might think after all this time he'd finally understand that his past is his past with how much time he spent grieving. But no. He "fell in love" with River while being in love with his past lover which itself doesn't have to be bad. The horrible thing is that he kept toying with River. He basically cheated on both his lovers. Then he had the audacity to be jealous when Heil was crushing on River. Also, I don't think I have to explain why his action of fcking sacrificing River all the time is fcking bullsht. Literally even after Kaveri told him to cherish River who obviously was ready to do anything for Khaol, he just thought ' Oh, I guess I still have a chance with Kaveri. Let's sacrifice River!'
Literally the worst kind of selfish person. Pains me that they River and Khaol are probably endgame considering the cover. Oh yeah and if you still pity and actually like Khaol then I suggest therapy. Even a god-like redemption can't save and excuse his actions. River should just end up with Heil. They are a thousand times happier together.

Ow I know that he's using river tho,and I know that he's wrong, but he just want to be happy with he's love but he don't know that he love river to, I think if I'm in he's position it difficult for me too, decide who I want to save, river or that guy in the bed of white ponytail guy.(￣▽￣)and how about you?

In my opinion just because Khaol "didn't know" he loved River isn't really an excuse for hurting him and those around him. Besides the point he did mention several times that he loves River... He basically always made River hopeful that he'd move on and spent the rest of River's mortal life with him. Also it really wasn't a matter of fact of saving River or Kaveri since in the beginning it was mentioned that Kaveri was never really in any danger. River, too, was only involved in his shtty position due to Khaol's bad decision making skills and his horrible personality. As for Kaveri, he lived in the realm of the dead since he already passed away a long time ago. His life was peaceful, but it is true that he missed his lover. Still he lived a good life and only wishes for Khaol to move on and be happy with River since he knew that River was a sincere and kind guy. Khaol was always just a ticking time bomb, anyway. He has a short temper and never really regarded River as an equal. He was drowning in his desperate attempt of remorse, guilt, pain and selfishness. He doesn't deserve either of them. At least not until he himself has healed his own wounds and repented for his actions,which I doubt will happen. Even if the author decides to give Khaol a redemption, it'd be too late anyway with the damage he has caused. Between River and Kaveri there really isn't any choice. Both of them are good people and never would have been harmed if Khaol never did any stupid decisions. So my answer would be to save both Kaveri and River from stupid ol' Khaol, since their relationship was unhealthy af and damaged their mental state. Especially River and his traumatic entanglement with the god of earth who literally wants to kill him every time they meet and the betrayal of Khaol.

Cause, he choose to sacrifice and use an innocent human to see his old flame. Eventhough he can just save the old flame by forgiving the human’s family but he didn’t want to cause the human family is the one of the main source of his power.

He basically killed river, River only survive cause he was able to gain control of Shuyin’s body on his own. Kaveri wasn’t even happy being stuck with Khaol.

I don’t think River would go back to him, I trust him and the author seems to favor heil and River ship more
