I think its because Japan's idea of fat is very different from North America. You should youtube it, RachelandJun made a nice video about it.
've just watch it and wow, I'm shock
Well, to be fair, the only one who called him chubby was oki (or whatever his name was). Plus, I agree with the other comment.
I think most Asians are the same. A while back I was teaching 2 Korean sisters English and one was slightly heavier than the other, but not really fat. Still, their mother was always calling her fat and worrying aloud about it, which freaked me out because that would not fly for mos Americans.
More recently, my nephew came to visit me and while he was not even close to obese/fat, he was a little heavy, partly because it was winter and he lives in MN. In that case my friends from China met him and kept going on and on about how fat he was. Although you could tell they didn't mean to be mean, it had my whole family weirded out because the idea of telling a kid they're fat to their face seemed completely bizarre to us.
that guy wasn't chubby...
I always thought I was chubby lol. if hes chubby what am I :((
cool stories too, I like my ukes little manlier so the janitor story was better than the 1st one, but the short extra at the end, the crossover, was fun to read.
