I guess he just realized all of a sudden. But I think in the novel version, it explained there how he did fell in love with eugene. 'Cause usually in chinese manhua... If it was orginally published as a novel and then adopt as a manhua, usually some scenes and actions that was actually explained in the novel they didn't include in the manhua adoptation or they just give a gist of it. So, better if you read the novel first then read the manhua version. But I don't have anylink to the novel version. I just noticed that.
