My boyfriend is poly, and I am mono, but I accept that he is poly, and he accepts that I am mono. He and I fell in love super fast, and we are still extremely happy together. He gives me all his attention and makes sure I know that he adores me, and that I am irreplaceable. Which is why I trust him to not cheat on me, but to tell me if he is interested in another person. I let him know what I am uncomfortable with, which is other women, because I become insecure about myself and women scare me a bit, but I'm ok with men, because I know that is a different experience I can't give him. He's bi, by the way. But, in this respect, we accept one another, and are willing to compromise to make each other happy. So, I think it would be like that, or that would be the healthy version of it.
Unless they decided to cure the poly.
