I don't know. If you get signals that tell you it's a bad idea to confess, it probably is. I don't know why a love-confession suddenly provides carte blanche to second-guess instinct. It isn't just that one might be rejected, a painful experience, but there is also the whole social element of friends, family, colleagues or schoolmates, and often in the case of a gay relationship, cultural antipathy, although thankfully that's breaking down. I say, be smart and follow your instincts.
i can see your point but you cant go and confess to your childhood bestfriend jusg because you want a romantic relationship with them. If they reject you and you continue being friends, it wont be the same. Something might be weird between you and is it worth the risk of losing them? Even if they accept it (which is a very very very small possibility if they are straight) it may not work and your relationship will be a lot more damaged. i say having someone you hold dearly by your side is more than enough sometimes. and the romance doesnt worth the risk of losing them.

I find it so sad when you notice you lost all these years thinking the other party isn't interested in you.... That's why I think you have to try confessing because if you don't, it's already a no, at least trying you have 50% to get a yes
