I like that Kakeru isn't completely oblivious to Yamato's feelings, unlike most other "childhood friends to lovers" type shounen-ai. He's aware of Yamato's words and actions towards him. He just doesn't have enough self confidence to admit or infer and is trying to push all thoughts, that it might be mutual, into his subconscious mind.
