Bara is (usually) made by men for other gay men. The characters are usually really muscular, and I guess they portray gays more realistically than what girls read (tho that's not always true)

Bara is demographic just like yaoi. It's BL.
Made by male author / mangaka with aiming real gay readers. It has more realistic drawing of men. Muscular, well build, handsome / hot guys. But there are also bara that presenting more realistic drawing like not very handsome main character, very hairy man, fat man etc.
While yaoi is focusing it's drawing style with pretty boys. Slim body, big eyes, cute boys.
Basically, it's all BL but the differences is the just the drawing style. For story, it depend on how the mangaka want to make it.
