Whilst we can recognise that this is a "classic" and showcases a lot of cultural relevance often amiss in manga, it's still worth noting that in nearly everyone of this authors mangas, women are represented abysmally. FL's are never accomplished in their own right, they always need the dashing ML to save the day... or worse, they are completely objectified. Now you could argue "oh it was the 80's or 90's" but even in the late 00's the author is still showing sexist representations of women. The author jokes about peadophillia and even objectifies a dead woman by making her the only one to be topless in the killing fields (Begin).
Yes we can otherwise appreciate a good seinen with a bit of organised crime and political thriller, but it's such a shame that the author can't write decent women.
