What kind of mental illness? Trauma or congenital illness? Because what I usually find is more like a sense of trauma. And many of what I read contain elements of you know right.. yaoi inside :3

My all time favourite manga is NHK ni youkoso it has an anime adaption too. The mc is a hikkikomori (ion know how to spell it) and is kinda paranoid idk if it counts but I recommend watching or reading it!
