I think some people are missing the point of this story:
A once meaningless life found meaning upon meeting the right person.
That is, Aya, has found meaning and peace even in the mundane of just watching Nazu study.
Also, it wasn't explored but from the hints here and there, it's clear something is going on with Aya's background that made him the way he is/was... I mean, we've never seen him work yet he has such a nice apartment plus his mother has all sorts of question signs...
This of course doesn't justify Aya's action against Nazu at the start of the story (even though he was drugged) but it's something to think about... his character has really changed from fucking Nazu in an alley to taking him back to a bed because he felt sick after to waiting until exams are over to abstaining from sex out of concern for Nazu's health to going exclusive and admitting he'd never been in a relationship before and begging Nazu, his now declared boyfriend to stay over and keep his company.
