I think the father cared about her in original story where she got blamed for assassinating. And I think the father gave her that sword, not to use to kill herself because he didn’t care if she died. He wanted her to have that sword so that the prince would’ve recognized it was the dad’s sword and would’ve known that was the dad’s weakness, his daughter and wouldn’t kill her. He wouldn’t know it was the daughter but if he saw the sword he would’ve instantly know, that’s the daughter.... but she immediately killed herself thinking that was the reason her Dave gave her a knife. Sad but at least she got a 2nd chance but doesn’t know it yet
