That it kind of reminds me of the way they sometimes erase penises or make those glowy lightsaber replacement phalluses*. So an anus may be drawn with all the detail of a blooming chrysanthemum, but noses and penises are too much for our gentle sensibilities.

Was just going to ay the same thing - it is late latin so either works as grammatical rules started to erode in the 5-6th century. Interestingly - they used to call it lignum - which translates as wood/wand/tree.

True, the alien look is pretty funny. There are also images where things like eyes disappear 'cast in shadow' but the shadow is never dark enough for that loss of detail. (reminds me of Kisuke in Bleach - how often did his eyes show when he wore that hat ...)

My impression of Latin scholars is that they go around making dirty jokes no one else can understand. Some may be reading Summa Theologica, but the rest are looking for ancient Roman porn. I would not be at all surprised to see them here snickering. When you see a Latin translation of 10 Count hit the Net, you'll know I am right (and that some scantaltor found a sort of loophole).

I love making dirt jokes in Latin, and I had a lovely teacher who taught us how to order fries and a burger, to say "beam me up Scotty" and brought in Asterix and Obelix (in Latin) for us to watch and assigned Winnie the Pooh (Winnie ille Pooh) for homework translations!
