Having a big age difference between couples during those times is quite acceptable. My grandparents have 8 years difference, grandpa is 21 when he got my 13 y/o grandma pregnant. But they lived happily married until their death. When my grandpa died, just 11 days after, my grandma followed him. It's such a very inspiring love story. And here I am, being single as hell... ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

How did that even happen?? Im 21 and I cant see any natural way of falling in love with a middle schooler. Was it an arranged marriage with a child bride? (Im also thinking you're just a troll)

Plus back then it wasn't common to have children with girls still going through puberty because of how dangerous childbirth was (It's not a good idea to marry a kid just to have them die trying to give birth). And usually it was only nobility that had weird age gaps and even then they waited for women to be mature enough to give birth to consummate the marriage.

No, it's true. Tho I'm not sure on how exactly it happened. But it was the 1940's and they were living in a back country in the Phil. My grandpa was under the care of my grandma's family. My grandma is a timid kind of person while grandpa is more on the aggresive side. Then things happened yada yada. But I asked my grandma if she was raped, but she said no. Her parents was the one who insisted that they had to live together. I think people back then were more inclined to the fact that you have to take responsibility since you got my daughter pregnant.

But yeah, in our times right now, that's really quite unacceptable especially if the other side is still a minor.

Yeah, I can't imagine having my own kids at teenage years. At 13, I was still enjoying watching animes and reading mangas. Damn I'm such a late bloomer ( ̄∇ ̄")

Just my opinion. Kids that era certainly doesnt have much entertainment. Especially if you live in the province. And i think its no biggie for them to be preggy at that age. My grandma and grandpa age was 16 when they concieved my mom. Then my mom conceived my bro when shes 27. I think its just how you raise and how mature can you be when face with this kind of circumstances (namely being pregnant ) so. At kung taga Pilipinas ka. Mga kabataan ngayon mas mature na. Kakilala ko nga at the age of 26 may 12 years old na anak partida sa una nyang karelasyon yon. She has like 3 kids with diff father. And here i am being single. Reading manga, novels and being a tita. (・∀・)

Actually, during the Middle Ages, girls were getting married off as soon as 12-14 (basically after they had their first period). Even in the tale of Romeo and Juliet... Historians estimate that she was supposed to be 13/14 and Romeo was only a year or two older.

Granted you do have to understand that by age 40 you were considered an elder. So for women, it was really important that they got married as soon as possible, so that they could bless their husbands with as many children as possible.

It is true that the practice of marrying so young became less and less popular as time went on. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it still happened periodically even in the 1920s.

Sorry. A bit late to this discussion, but those who think it's "grooming" or whater are mistaken. It was a different time. It was more common for girls to get married at the ages of sixteen to eighteen in the western world.

My own grandfather was in his thirties (late 1940s) and divorced (his ex wife was an abusive alcoholic) when my grandmother literally stalked him at the age of 13. He didn't want anything to do with her, but she was persistent. He only gave her the time of day after my great-grandparents (on her side) consented to allow courting, provided they save intimate relations for after marriage, if it got that far.

She married my grandfather at sixteen, he insisted that she finish school before they had children, so she did. She has five children with him, but at some point decided she wanted out. She cheated on him and he was willing to forgive her, but she wanted divorce.

He gave her everything he had, took one son (my dad) and moved across the country. He was heartbroken to the day he died.

My grandma, on the other hand, got married again with the guy she cheated on my grandpa with, had two more kids, then he later cheated on her and divorced her for another woman. My great-grandparents on her side never liked him and thought she was stupid for cheating on and divorcing my grandpa.

    Anyway, different time....

Sorry, correction, sometime in the 1950s. My grandpa was ancient by the time I was a kid.

Wow. That was quite a family drama. I have to read it again to process what you just said and check if I missed something haha. Your grandma was quite 'driven' when it comes to her men, huh. And salute to ur grandpa, men like that are rare nowadays. Anyways, May our grandparents' soul rest in peace ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Indeed. He lived into his 90s though, so I'm happy I got to know him. When I first heard the story, I was confused because grandpa was almost 20 years older than her. The stalking thing was weird, but it goes further. I saw proof of it (other than grandma admitting it) in secret photos she took of grandpa in public.

When they divorced, she gave the photos to him. I gotta wonder what he thought about that, because I don't think he ever knew. He kept them though, because he said they made him look good. Lol.

What I really should have asked at the time was where the heck did she get the money for a camera and film back then. (⊙…⊙ )
