Really weird how so many people here think that you shouldn’t engage critically with the media you consume lmao. That’s like the first rule of reading something; form some of your own thoughts. Criticism is okay. Good, even. This whole “Don’t like, don’t read,” thing really bugs me for some reason. I think that argument only works when it’s about a genre; don’t like romance? Don’t read it. Don’t like fantasy? Don’t read it. It’s not, “Don’t like rape? Triggered, even? Tough titties, I like it. That’s a you problem, and don’t go thinking you can freely express a critical opinion around here.”
Like, don’t try to vilify people who take umbrage with rape or pedophilia – what the fuck is that? Maybe take a step back and think about why you don’t have a problem with it? I, for one, don’t particularly care for rape or threats thereof as shitty plot devices. If that’s the sort of person you are, you really had ought to learn how to read critically. Like, “Why is this ‘classic’ BL manga so homophobic? Why do I like seeing closeted gay men scared and struggling?” I feel like these are the same people who genuinely think Lolita is a masterpiece lmfao.
