ah, I think the OA meant that they cried when Penelope told Ecklise to not betray her and not when Ecklise betrayed her (which I don't think will ever happen?)

Vintner is suppose to bring her at the coming of age ball but Eclise brings her to the estate before that. Eclise gets to the point that he so obsess with Penelope that he wants to become the only person Penelope can rely on. He knew that with the real daughter present they were going to toss Penelope aside. Penelope attempts to kill herself at the coming of age ball because she believes she has lost the game.

Any funny thing is that we all were prolly rooting for Eclise cause he seemed the most normal one but it turns out from what I’ve read in the comment section the first prince is the most sane one down the road which is ironic since he seemed the most craziest
