Actually the original rhyme was not really a children's rhyme until much later. This song song used to be a very racist song about "catching a ni**er by the toe" before they changed it and made it into a children's song. They used to sing this song when they were trying to choose "which ni**er to lynch during their picnic gathers. The original meaning of picnic is also derived from racism which was originally called "pick a ni**er" and also later got changed to picnic. I think, not many people know about this. But the more you know, I guess.
