Well she can live cuz she was a commoner in her previous life or so is the assumption but I guess she won't leave the castle becuz she being shipped with sir Wolff (the black haired dude who has personality issues I suppose)by the writer or mangaka so she won't be living in freedom so the plot could continue on a different path and there are two - three stories in which the the villainess lives like a commoner so they can't have similar story line possibly
Yes, she's kind so she can't hurt her physically but she butchered her last chance of freedom by cutting it off... The moment Melafa explained that doing something 'bad' can get her banned from the castle, she should've done everything in her power to do something and voila! peaceful free life is awaiting her... and she wasted it...very disappointing...
