why do people hate love triangles

i don't like love triangles because sometimes i end up rooting for the other person. sometimes i like love triangles just bc of the angst lol

I hate them because they are so annoying. They run around in circles for the whole damn story with little to no character development or narrative consequence. Also I just see them as unnecessarily dramatic. And the characters are usually shallow as fuck. Of course there are exceptions, and most romance manga are also shallower than a puddle but at least there isn't the frustration you get when reading a love triangle story. I think most of these love triangles get their popularity from the ship wars they create

It dependsss. I can't stand those where the second lead's only purpose is to drag the plot but he has no personality aside from being in love with the main character and gets no developement whatsoever. Also 90% of the time the second lead is very caring and not toxic at all which is why so many people prefer him over the main lead, but because the author only introduces him to create drama he's always a super flat and boring. I actually read very few stories where all three characters had enough depth and developement that even when one gets turned down his arc was still meaningful.

I hate love triangles bc I feel like the 2nd lead is there as an essential for the main couple to be together and get played around in order for them to find happiness while the 2nd lead suffers in pain.

this !! i hate the ones who have zero personality or are malicious for no good reason. like stop, u live for the drama we know but just let them be happy dammit. i have yet to see a story where the second lead ends up making a big impact on the mc because he’s always just used for dramatic purposes and then once he gets shot down once and for all, it’s like he was never even there to begin with. and it sucks so much worse when the second lead was actually good and caring but then is just forgotten so quickly !!
