SPOILERS

1) The king is repulsed by intimate contact i. e the kind between a man and a woman. The previous queen drugged and raped him when he was 14 for getting heirs. He is disgusted by the seductive touch of a woman as it makes him remember his past trauma.

2) The king's parents were strict and ignored his presence in general. When the king was a child he was not showered love by his biological parents and dined alone. Thus he thought all the royal families behaved this way and since he dined alone too -- he saw nothing wrong with Blanche doing the same.

3) In a way he does care about Blanche's well being and is a bit of doting father. Despite his trauma he agreed to marry Abigail because he wanted to gather sufficient political power to make Blanche his heir to the throne. He doesn't want her to get married to some king of another country who would abuse her the same way the previous queen abused his younger self.

4) Verite is actually the prince of fairies or elves or smth who later marries Blanche after she grows up. Blanche becomes the queen of the country whereas Verite becomes her king consort and the king of the fairies.

5)Abhigail later grows very close to Blanche and ends up designing matching comfortable clothes for her and Blanche for a ball they need to attend. Since the clothes were very pretty and comfortable, the noble ladies were very much interested in them. Abigail later ends up mending her damaged reputation by promising to make clothes for them too.
