You're surprised it was mentioned since the first time she was introduced to the story.
They’re clearly surprised that Tendou is still capable of standing on her own two feet AFTER the detailed backstory we got. We only finished going through her backstory recently, so no one knew the extent of it until then.
Genuinely suprised that she had a shit father and was still able to stand on her own.
