For those who are curious, a little summary of what is to come. SPOILERS ahead:
To sum up really quickly, black-haired guy quits school a bit earlier so they don't really get to spend much time together. After that, they don't see each other for a couple of years, until they're full grown adults. When they meet again, black-haired guy is married to the geisha girl. Yes, quite a lot of unnecessary drama... But even so, they finally spend a night together and confess to each other. And in the end, the two of them grow old together.

Actually they each broke up wiht their respective partners. MC with his fiance and Tachibana with the geisha. And the implication is that it takes MC a few years to settle things on his side because he's the heir to a family fortune and all that, but in the end they do get together.

was indeed married to the geisha when they saw each other again! I thought that she was some sort of his caretaker after the war, since I don't know chinese. Ouch! That must have been painful :(
