He dated her knowing of that fact because he thinks he can steal Kaori from Ryosuke. He forced/forced her into the relationship back at the train station by saying "choose choice b instead of a" – assuming it is after Kaori's monologue at the kimono shop – because theey both thought Ryosuke already had a girlfriend. I'm not going to defend her actions of cheating but at least know that she doesn't deserve to die.
