Do genres go outdated or not? I'm really confused in that part.
Oh, wasn't BL(Boy's Love) just the english term for Shounen Ai (Shounen=boy Ai=Love)? Same with shoujo ai and GL(Girl's love)?
And wasn't the genre yaoi refer to the genre that specifically targets women audience which in opposite the bara is kinda for the male audience?( bara genre is kinda complicated for me now cuz it was now being used mainly for buff guys)
Yaoi is an outdated term that’s not used anymore the umbrella term is BL regulardless of ifs if explicit or not. Shounen ai is a Japanese translation for the word “pederasty” (English) or “Knabenliebe” (Greek), which refers to the historical Greek/Rome practice of sexual relationship between an adult man and an adolescent boy. If you look into the history of the use of the word it really just meant male adult x male child relationships, but Americans for whatever reason changed the meaning. The term you should be using no matter what is BL.
What you’re trying to call me dumb for educating you? How are you this immature and offended by me correcting you. Anyways Yaoi is outdated because
yaoi originally started coming into the Japanese market during the late 1970's / early 1980's , sold at manga doujinshi conventions such as Comic Market ( Comiket ). Yaoi works were originally called aniparo , and referred to anime - parodied doujinshi that featured an mlm relationship of characters from existing anime (mostly popular shonen). The term yaoi was coined in the early 1980's as a self - derogatory term , an acronym from the phrase yama nashi , ochi nashi , imi nashi [ translated to no climax , no punch line , no meaning ) . It was phrased this way not because it was all about sex ( yes , most of them were pornographic , but this is not why it was called yaoi ) , but because it was generally written written by amateur writers and had poor storytelling techniques ( no plot ) . As mlm fictions became more popularized , the production of yaoi died out , being replaced by Shounen - ai and June fictions , and eventually BL as we know it , by the late 1990s . Yaoi is rarely produced anymore , at least not as much as in the 1980s , and the term is only used in Japanese doujinshi circles in reference to the doujins written in similar fashion to the anl - paro made in the 1980s . This is why BL ( boy's love ) is a more accurate description of modern - day m / m manga / anime targeted towards women. An description of yaoi in the west would be PWP , in reference to ' Plot ? what Plot ? NOT ' Porn without plot ' ( this may be the source of some confusion with the term ) . Many westerners adopted yaoi into meaning " fetishistic m / m porn written by straight girls for straight and entirely incorrect. That’s why today basically everything is called BL and if you referred to something as yaoi in Japan they would genuinely be confused. So before you try calling me stupid be sure to know your facts you fucking cunt.
No but it’s like a lot of Japanese people are correcting people and trying to tell others to use the proper terminology. I mean in a general sense it’s just weird to change a meaning of a word in your country and continue to just use it incorrectly after being corrected. Also as I kinda stated before Yaoi is so unused in Japan that they get confused when you say it bc the universal word is BL. So overall I get what you’re saying but after learning the history of the words and how it’s used in Japan there’s really no reason to say Yaoi or Shounen-ai.
Then the yaoi word is being borrowed from japan by other countries to refer to m/m pairing right?
Like the acronym BL(boys love) which is an english term borrowed by japanese people to refer to m/m pairing?
Maybe in japan they will correct people because yaoi is not the commonly used word there, but in some countries they will correct people from using BL to yaoi because yaoi is the commonly used word there.
I agree with the wiki comment made to you. The fact you are so delusional just makes any comment to you meaningless. It must be that you’re so young you just believe whatever you read on the internet. Yes Japanese do understand what Yaoi means, it’s has as much plot now as it did back when it first started (god only knows how you’d describe classic lit) and it is STILL mainly marketed towards straight women. There were no men browsing thru it when I was in Japan. https://youtu.be/1re0GLL59Zo
I got my information through research, Japanese people, Japanese speaking, and please of Japanese people that wanted to correct others on the terminology. If you feel like growing up and stop being a nasty old cunt instead of trying to find every other way to call me retarded try reading this you dumbfuck https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Yyzr_9JK-7vYVG0EADcZ_o49lD4O7pes3tBAqW_UXm4/edit . It really shows something when someone won’t listen even though someone is trying to educate you with highly research info and stuff Japanese people have been saying for years. You sound like an annoying ass white bitch that can’t understand the fact you’re wrong.
Wait... so the genre terms yaoi, shounen ai, yuri, and shoujo ai are outdated terms?
