i think the reason why violet isn't telling evie that he's the crown prince is because his relationship with evie was rigged from the start. what i predict will happen is that the reveal of the crown prince's true identity will cause the population to believe evie's placement was rigged and favored instead of the neutrality and fairness that was promised. Obviously, us from modern day society will say that evie's economic disadvantage and crown prince's favor may cancel out with the other privileges that the rich girls are facing, but that's not how the public is expected to react (not saying this won't be the "twist" in the story). The public might feel betrayed by evie because she was the symbol of equality to them, and favoring a candidate isn't equal despite the obvious flaw in logic.
