The novel is actually very good. I have read it last year but yeah I agree with you the way they are presenting it in the manga is very crisp like cutting half the "emotions" and getting straight to the point. So it feels like the story is all over the place.
The novel does a much better job with originality then the manhwa does. I think the director was probably like "it's another one of those fantasy romance adaptations so let's just be cliche"
