He does know that’s why he’s also paying him b/c he knows he’s not at fault. I think to some extent he feels bad, cuz honestly what debtor would pay you if your fault for their money being stolen. He even told something to his subordinates about not finding the culprits. I think he’s just saying it to tease him
He didn’t tell him why he didn’t take the money. Was it skipped?
