I think he means his love for Iida has died while he's been using Misato. And you're right about too many Sato's! I'm not sure if it was the mangaka's original text or the translators trying to make sure we all understand who exactly is being talked about, but it was still way too confusing after a certain point. Two was difficult, but the introduction of the sister's character just had me saying, "Okay, we need to give everyone a new name."
The first story needs an extra chap. I want to see what happens next. And the 2nd story is so messed up, tragic and confusing. So Mei said hes love has died? for whom?? Gosh too many satos （/TДT)/
