Family or Love?

I just read the webtoon Let's Cast Off and honestly it wrecked me. SPOILER: The plot revolves around the MC who loved sailing but was tramatize by it when he witness his father washed ashore dead. Since then he has been bullied and has become scared of everything. His older brother takes it upon himself to protect the MC from then on and do everything in his power to make sure MC is okay. The MC falls in love with older brother's friend, but it turns out that the older brother's friend used to love the older brother but the older brother felt guilty about accepting his love since him and those around him were being targeted (sent to the hospital by 'accidents') by a rich powerful person who wanted to destroy all other sailing competitors so his own son can be the best. Years past and the older brother's friend now loves the MC and MC love the friend. However, they keep their relationship a secret. Older brother finally is in a position where he can confess his feelings to his friend now. MC then learns that the 'friendship' that he thought his older brother and his now boyfriend had was more than just 'friendship' (they both used to like each other but never got offical). So MC decides to break up since he doesn't want to hurt the older brother's feeling by 'stealing' his love and happiness.

Now I get that a lot of you are going to say for the older brother to move on but I honestly agree with the MC just breaking up. I mean, this is a choice between family or love and for me family always comes before love. I get that why should MC sacrfice his love and happiness for the older brother but think in reverse that why did the older brother have to sacrfice so much to protect his little brother's happiness too when MC was still being bullied??? I mean, sure MC breaking up doesn't mean the friend will suddenly like older brother again but still I like how this webtoon is showing a different route than the typical 'MC get's what he wants. Stomps on everyone else's feelings and happiness. But somehow everyone is happy, forgives, and accepts everything. The End.'

Though I'm just curious about people's thoughts. Family or love?

*p.s TBH the problem lies in the friend (boyfriend). He never clearly stated to MC about his past relationship with the older brother in that he used to have romantic feelings for him. He just kept saying 'we were friends and sailed together'. Also when MC found out about everything he told boyfriend to not tell the older brother since the older brother didn't know that MC and Boyfriend were dating, BUT boyfriend went right ahead and told older brother since he wanted to make things clear for once (right after the older brother finally confessed his feelings towards him). Of course the older brother was hurt and pissed at boyfriend and MC so he left home which left MC devasted since MC turly loves and recongize all that his older brother has done for him yet in the end he ended up hurting him. So MC asks boyfriend why he told older brother even when he said not to, but boyfriend just says 'He needed to know the truth. I don't want us to break up. I love you and only you now.' Honestly, SELFISH!!!! Boyfriend didn't even take into consideration of the MC's family situation and only his desire to be together.

Literally the boyfriend just ruined this poor boy's entire family support and existence.
