I don't actually blame him for thinking that way. The guilt he must have felt for being part of the reason why his sister died probably impacted him greatly so I can see him overlapping Rian's image for his sister and he probably would have continued to care for her as he would his sister. Cecile really does resemble Rian to a certain extent but I think ML would most likely fall for her heart and see that she is different from Cecile.
