Even though Akito lived in basement, he was not a prisoner.
With his foresee ability, he was respected and treasured, the author should let him wear a kimono.

Clearly he wasn't treasured. He had a room with no luxuries, seemed to wear hospital clothes. He was merely a tool for the old man to use as he saw fit. Also clearly, he was a prisoner. He wasn't allowed out, he wasn't even allowed to encounter people outside his master's control - even the people who sought his powers never actually saw who was speaking to them through the curtains.

He wanted out, they wouldn't give it to him. Prisoner.
