I think the sad aspect is how that twisted love came to be, one could even argue if love can be formed after being raped and broken like that.
He basically never healed from his past trauma and came back to his rapist who abandoned him....
Yeah.
Don’t think it’s a sad ending, sure he can’t ride his sick anymore but they still love each other
