He's just insecure. Its not the same having a same sex relationship. He feels like he has to protect him by pushing him away. He sees that he values his friends and family. If they stay together and cone out as a couple, he fears that everyone is going to shun him. And he's probably going to be sad and all that jazz. In a way its sweet and the other guy should respect his decision bit in the bad way, he's completely risking him being taken away by that emo kid. And right now I think he does need a bit of a scare. Make him see that its worth it to risk everything to be with his loved one.....that my opinion
