A lot of people (including me) can't stand Taichi simply because they can relate to Nao's situation. It happens a lot in heterosexual relationships as well that the partner wants to take a break, which often leads to a breakup. In Nao and Taichi's case you have to add the lack of communication. As for me, if my boyfriend were to act like Taichi I'd be so broken I wouldn't be able to eat and sleep for days before recovering. It must be terrible being left to wait for an unknown amount of time without knowing what the outcome will be and what's going on on the other party's mind. Sure, as readers we know what Taichi is thinking and that he loves Nao, but what about Nao? He has no idea and he keeps being rejected by the one who claims to love him. In my opinion this is not a mature way to handle problems, it's just plain cruel. Nao should just learn to value himself more and give Taichi an out-out: if he wants to be with him and talk about how to handle their relationship together he's more than welcomed, if not Nao is free to find someone else (and not necessarily Nishina). A relationship is made of two people, not one. Taichi doesn't have the right to make decisions for Nao and cannot expect Nao to wait for him withouth giving him an explanation.
