I understand your point, but in my perspective I love reading ex stories because not only does it add more depth and complexity to the characters and the plot, but it also gives me this feeling of real life. It's realistic, that not everyone has not had their first, not everyone is as perfect, not everything is black and whote, etc. Usually, with bl stories or other genres, it's mostly abt how they're perfect for each other, they never felt this "feeling" before not until this "person" came along, or how they never had any baggage that is actually in the way of how they deal with their newfound love.
I like the thought that a character, like Rio, has already fallen in love and has shared himself so deeply with a past lover, Kido, and yet did not end up with him. That despite what they've been through and their history, they were just jot meant to be. How Kido's lingering feelings still exist, but it will never grow more than that.
That despite everything, Rio has found someone new. So did Kido.
It's 4am rn and it's usually the time where I crave for angst and sad shit that can hurt me so I guess that's why I praise this manga rn. Maybe if I had read this in daytime, I might have not be as elated as I am rn. But my point about how well-written this is still stands. I love the complexity this showed!
I don't understand your complaint because this isn't part of the main story. You had the choice to skip it and you didn't so that's on you.
Plenty of people in real life can't stop thinking about their exes too. And he does focus on his present relationship, he just thought à moment about what could have been between them if they'd worked out their differences.
As for why this story even exists I suppose the author likes both of these characters and wanted to draw their relationships.
It's a part that you could have skipped. If you're only fond of the main couple, then it was completely unnecessary to read this as it doesn't include them in any way. You chose to read something you knew you wouldn't like.
And about people who can't move on from their exes, forward your complaint to them because what can I do about it? This is such a weird thing to be bothered about.
this isnt part of the main series at all, its a prequel, meaning very skippable and it rly is a weird thing to be upset about. also i cant imagine enjoying any part of the Pornographer series if u prefer fluffy dreamlike romances to something more lowkey and based in reality. thats the vibe of this whole series? such a weird ass take to have from someone who read not only the main story but the prequel too (or attempted to read the prequel idk their life).
Ify. Honestly to me I skipped through a lot of he second and this one (I basically skipped all of the third one) but it just feels like he was more inlove with kido than he was with kuzumi…. Maybe I misread and I mean they’re endgame but it just when he said “I don’t really want to move in with him but he’s done so much for me” it just feels like he feels obligated to be with him to me… maybe I’m misunderstanding/ I skipped a lot but I just feel this book was so hard to even skim through….
Personally, I never understood why I needed to know a whole volume about why a main character's previous relationship didn’t work out. But perhaps that's just me. In real life too, people focus on their present relationship, not think about their past failed relationship. It was painful to read 6 chapters of Kido leading Rio around, cheating on his gf and betraying 2 people at a time.
