She is using he child to gain more power. Did you not notice how she didn’t thought her daughter anything important? Once her daughter in king/queen she would get all the power. She doesn’t care for her daughter either all, she likes the power she will gain through her daughter. Of course she has to treat her daughter like she is loved and special, if her daughter believes she is a loving mother she would trust her enough to ask to help her with the kingdom. And that’s what she is counting on, she is counting on the fact that she raised a innocent girl that doesn’t know the ways of the world.

If she did try to take the throne, her whole family will be killed and burned down by other nobles and commoners!
