If u think all characters need to be positive u re wrong. At least winter not a toxic & abusive. He just rough, uncaring n never been considerate about other people situation. He just always think just from his POV only. He just think his wife is princess so everything will be ok. Not as he who re struggle during childhood. Both of them not learn to be understanding each other but now there re trying which is good. What the author show us is reality n I have saw that a real one. The sad thing in reality sometimes we don't have character development but in this story we know, they re trying to be understanding & learn about each other by their own way.

Sorry but he is toxic and abusive! Do you see how his wife became? She was lively and strong even if she was naive, but he made her tamed, depressed and death wishing. And no, it's no the domestics and the family, because we see it, she didn't care at first: it's because he has violent reaction, scream and is very mean with his words that she mind now.
