They explained it earlier, she basically doesn't have a choice. She's put in a bad position no matter what she picks due to her being a commoner. I actually feel bad for her.

Tip for people who hate on Helena because Eris is FL: just bc someone is main character doesnt mean that they are always right and this is common thing in literature. Characters are people and they might misunderstand or lie to themselves and we see situation from their perspective but we shouldnt forget to look from our perspective and accept that our FL can be wrong.
Well i don't know why you think people hate helena because of Eris.. people hate Helena because of her decisions regardless of how eris feels.. she was obviously able to run away she could've done that earlier and let's face it she has a lot of questionable behaviors.. Also, people don't need a reason to dislike other people so defending this character really is a waste of your time and emotions
