It is part of the story but the side story also includes(not sure if all) a beginning where both hwi and param switches where param catches hwi just like how hwi catches param in the beginning of the webtoon but it is separate from the origanl story u got it? Hahaha donno how else to explain it
And just saw a comment where it's just hwi telling param this story of them switching roles after he went to japan

It's something that goes like a "What If Situation" if Hwi was the one who works from a company and Param is a gym trainer, that's what Param was telling about to Hwi (present/original universe) on the phone just to add some spice to the story.
