    Don't worry, I'm 33 and glad to know there's a variety there for safe sex. Just in case...you know?? ( ̄∇ ̄")

Virginity is rare in my area yet I find alot of people on here... Is it because us fujoshi's have been disillusioned by yaoi so thats why we cant do it? Or is it an anti-social thing... Im 25 though.

Probs social awkwardness, as those with it tend to flock toward this type of nerdy stuff so there's a higher ratio here, and well they have less opportunities of interacting with potential partners. I highly doubt yaoi itself really causes people to not find a significant other/want sex ( ̄∇ ̄")

Not a virgin by the way.

o_o You sure a man won't go running if a girl confessed, I like Yaoi? Men on Men action? Yaoi itself CAN cause people to not find partners. But yeah... for most it wont be the root cause.

Oh, I guess that may be a small part of it xD. Not much though as you said, but yeah aha.

My guy doesn't care though, he finds it silly. That's probably a cultural thing however, homosexuality isn't much of a stigma at all here. I don't really care who gets to know about it in my personal life, nobody makes a fuss about it (and if they did I'd just be like what the hell, chill), it's only amusing.

i'm 29 and i haven't had sex yet. for me, it comes down to anxiety and self esteem issues. like i've had more than a handful of opportunities, but i've always been too freaked out to go through with it :(

All of the previous mentions as well as adding asexuality that tends to run higher in women and since society doesn't push us into marriage we tend to just say meh to it all.

Did you find your own hirotaka? (It's difficult to love reference) http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/it_s_difficult_to_love_an_otaku/nbt/05b8ada7bc38753e/Vol1_Ch0/ Gah! So envious. Lol

Ahaha, well he's not much of an "otaku" though. He does watch anime with me however, which has been nice, but he just never really knew that even existed before so well I doubt he's ever going to get that much more interest into it by his own. Though he sure has been getting a good laugh from watching some recent anime harem when I'm busy lol.

He's just really good-natured and open minded :)

My ex though was quite otaku-ish (and with quite the exceptionally good look I must say). It's just that he ended up being gay as well LOL. I wouldn't even be surprised to learn he's been into yaoi since then xD.

I sure do attract, let's say, interesting people in my life.

If so, there wouldn't be much of a fanbase. Asexuality is estimated at about 1% of the world... And all of those I know personally, are not.

I can throw some facts though:
Most yaoi fans are either teenage girls or young women.
It is usually assumed that all female fans are heterosexual, but in Japan there is a presence of lesbian manga authors and lesbian, bisexual or questioning female readers.
About 15% of the readership is male.
Recent online surveys indicate that 50-60% of the english-speakers female readers identify as heterosexual.
It has been suggested that Western fans may be more diverse in their sexual orientation than Japanese fans and that Western fans "are more likely to link" BL to supporting gay rights.

That number make complety sense. But when we talke about english-espeakers, you mean all of us? Or the ones that english is the first language?

"The two online surveys seem to have attracted different reader populations. Respondents to the English-language survey came primarily from those countries in which English is a majority language — 80% of those reporting their primary country of citizenship came from the U.S., Canada, the UK, or Australia. The remaining 20% were scattered through South America, the rest of Europe, and other countries. None came from Japan, and only four came from Italy."

Ah, it did find also that 3-7% identified as "not interested in sex".
So I guess it may be more likely to attract asexuals in general (given they represent 1% of the world's population). Though there might be some people that just say they're not interested in sex without being actually asexual.

Heterosexuality about half, bisexuality about a quarter. Homosexuality about 7%. 8-10% "don't know".

So yeah, the community outside of Japan is a bit more diverse in its sexual orientation it would seem.

    Nnene September 30, 2016 3:01 pm

All the ones that said they were "not interested in sex" were women. Men mostly all identified as bisexual or homosexual (about half-half).

I'm impress with your level of knowlege. Thanks.

    Nnene September 30, 2016 3:24 pm

So yeah, if I take a good look at it:

    Women (85-90%):
    50-55% heterosexual
    20-25% bisexual
    4% lesbian
    8% "not interested in sex"
    10% "don't know"
2% "other" (other is probably mostly queer, as it was not in the choices)

    Men (10-15%):
    5-10% heterosexual
    45-50% bisexual
    40% homosexual
5% "other" ("other" and "don't know" have each one response)
0 responded "not interested in sex"

That's probably a good representation of the fandom.

i feel you. this is essentially me too. anxiety and self-esteem totally stop me, especially or partners with experience.

I actually had a guy i dated for 7 years back from age 13 and he was cool with me being into anime. he was mostly into the big name ones: naruto, dbz, naruto, inuyasha, full metal alchemist. then i got him into anime to the point he liked it. eventually i told him i was into yaoi too and he was okay with that. he got a crack out of watching me fan girl all the time, as well as being a frustrated reader in general. until i started asking him guy related questions about things they'd talk about in yaoi, that embarrassed the hell out of him, yet i still did it. other than him, i don't tell anyone else i'm into it.

I didn't know that being a virgin that long was a real thing unless you were asexual or super religious! It's good to wait for the right person.
