He is proptecting his territory. The 'natives' are looting from the place near the border of his territory and killing people. He mightlook cruel but it waa normal during their time. It was them who cross the border and hurt his people. It his way as lord to stop the barbarians from doing so.

Yup. They only really do that one a year when ghe looting is getting out of hand. It also helps show the crown their importance since without them/him the barbarians will cause more trouble.
